We're back this week with five additional tips to help you navigate the gym environment with confidence! Whether you're a seasoned gym-goer or just starting out, these guidelines can enhance your experience. That "me-time" can be precious so let's make the most of it!

1. Follow Time Limits on Cardio Machines

It's common for gyms to have time limits on cardio machines, especially during peak hours. Be mindful of these limits to ensure everyone has a fair chance to use the equipment. If you notice others waiting, consider wrapping up your workout or switching to another machine. If you've just started, let them know when to expect you to be done!

2. Use Proper Hygiene

Maintaining personal hygiene is crucial in a shared space like the gym. Always wipe down equipment after use with the provided sanitizing wipes, and if you're a sweater (it's okay, lots of us are!) be sure to bring a towel to keep sweat at bay. Say no to pungent perfumes but yet to deodorant. This not only shows respect for fellow gym members but also helps maintain a clean environment.

3. Don’t Give Unsolicited Advice

While it’s great to share knowledge, unsolicited advice can be unwelcome and even off-putting. If someone appears to be struggling, it’s best to offer advice only if they ask for it. Everyone is at the gym for their own reasons, and respecting personal space and choices is key.

4. Be Aware of Mirrors and Form Check Areas

Gym mirrors are often used for checking form while working out. When using a mirror for your workout, be aware of your surroundings and try to avoid blocking others who may also want to check their form. If you're in a designated area for form checks, ensure you're not taking up space that others may need.

5. Respect Gym Rules and Staff

Every gym has its own set of rules designed to ensure safety and a positive environment for all members. Familiarize yourself with these rules and adhere to them. Additionally, always treat gym staff with respect; they are there to help and maintain a pleasant atmosphere for everyone.

We hope these tips help you to feel more confident when you're starting back up or you're new to the gym. Remember everything takes practice and everyone in that gym started somewhere. Just know the Wilma community is SO proud of you for showing up and is forever cheering you on!
